About the Leesman Index
Leesman holds the largest contemporary collection of workplace effectiveness benchmark data in Europe.
Leesman offer no other services – just the deployment of our impartial standardised effectiveness measurement tool, the Leesman Index, so we have no vested interest in the data it collects. Leesman offer no consultancy or diagnostic services.
The Leesman 'Lmi' is our benchmark performance satisfaction and effectiveness score. Graded from 0-100 it is an indicator of the ability of a workplace to support the activities of the employees it accommodates.
An algorithm generates a numeric score (the Lmi) based on the responses of each employee who completes the Leesman Survey. Each individual is given an Lmi score from which an arithmetic mean is derived to form the survey Lmi.
Offered for comparison, these are the Lmi scores of the highest and lowest performing workplaces in our database.
Not directly, but it does ask whether the design of the workplace enables staff to "work productively". So it can very quickly help to identify the issues that are creating obstacles to creating a highly effective workplace.
Using the Leesman Survey
On average the core survey takes just 11 minutes to complete. We record and report on the average completion time for every survey.
Most surveys achieve response rates of between 60 and 70%
We are experienced at coaching our clients to optimise response rates from employees. This includes ensuring the survey is sent out by an influential champion, selecting the best timing for survey launch and sending reminders / prompts.
We recommend maximum 2 weeks.
In truth - at any time. But certainly as early as possible in planning a capital project. The survey itself can be a very valuable part of an employee communication or change management programme.
Our survey can be used at any time on a project. It can be launched Pre-Project (before a capital project) to inform the project brief, Post-Project to evaluate the project's success and as a regular general health check across an entire CRE portfolio (Day 2).
Yes we use the same survey Pre- and Post-Project. This is the ideal way to measure the success of a project. If baseline results are established prior to the workplace change, clear compatible data shows how much the employee experience has changed.
The 'launch' of a single survey, which can extend to a maximum of 5 building locations, costs £7,450, regardless of respondent numbers.
Then there is an additional charge of £1,350 per building location.
No, the survey has been deployed globally and is currently available in 8 languages. Our largest survey to-date covered 3000 employees in 31 locations across 18 countries.
Leesman will work with you to develop a project specific module where we add additional questions, though a small charge may need to be applied.
Setting up a Leesman Survey
We can build a survey in days, but experience indicates it typically takes 3-4 weeks to go through the setup process and information gathering with clients prior to launch.
We are happy to look after it for you, or you can assign one or two people who will be trained in the survey setup process and will manage all communications between Leesman and your clients.
Our survey is compatible with a range of web browsers and operating systems; you can complete the demonstration survey to check your compatibility and view our Compatibility Document.
Leesman recommend that all the employees in the locations being surveyed should be invited to participate. We will work with you to promote the survey to encourage a high response rate – the number of target respondents has no bearing on the cost.
The total number of people invited to complete the survey when it is launched within an organisation.
It's up to you – we can include or remove questions that focus on home-based working.
We will send you a project specific URL link to the survey, which an appointed 'champion' from the client will send out on the day the survey is launched.
This is the website link we will provide that will direct staff to the online survey, hosted on our servers.
Analysing the data
You can display and interrogate your data in a simple but powerful on-line analysis tool called Leesman Analytics.
It allows you to view and export any of your results in graphic and tabular form, and to cut the data to compare different employee groups by applying filters such as location, role, age group, length of service and many more.
It will show the headline scores plus the detailed results of all the questions included in your survey. In particular, it will show which work activities are important to your employees and how well those activities are supported by the workplace. It will also show which features and facilities in the physical work environment are performing well and which are not.
The Leesman Index holds the largest contemporary collection of comparable data, so yes, Leesman can offer a number of comparisons to the rest of the database, including useful subsets of data aggregated from relevant groups of organisations.
Currently we can survey anyone with staff occupying an office workplace, from motor manufacturers to legal practices and publishers to banks. In time, we will also adapt Leesman to cater for other types of space, such as education and healthcare institutions.
Leesman holds the fastest growing collection of workplace data with around 500 new respondents added every month (see Home page for latest respondent numbers).
Confidentiality and Privacy
Yes, completely anonymous. No response can ever be linked back to an individual respondent.
No. We need to know the company email domain(s) (for example @Leesmanindex.com) so that we can limit survey access to your employees, but not the individual addresses.
The completion of our survey is based on trust. At the close of the survey, all the email addresses are reviewed by our developers, and any that stand out as suspicious are brought to our attention. We will liaise with you to determine whether or not to delete that respondent.
To maintain our confidentiality, we recommend that all reminder emails thank those who have made the effort to complete the survey and encourage those who have not to login and complete the survey. We have many reminder templates which can be tailored for your organisation.
